Scrimmage! Improv Fight Night | Show Recommendation

Competitive improv done right!

Scrimmage Improv

Scrimmage! pits improv troupes against each other in a head-to-head comedy showdown, with the audience voting on their favourite after each round.

Hosted by Twelve People Improv and refereed RIP VAN WINKLE (Fred Newnes), the show is bursting with energy throughout.

This April at the Landor Pub in Clapham, it was the turn of Twelve People vs Lobster Tango on the undercard. After a silly warm up, which set the tone perfectly, each team had 15 minutes to play out scenes inspired by audience suggestions. Both undercard teams had top gameplay and running gags, with a standout moment being a scene from Twelve People, which brought us a character who called himself "Terry the Loan Shark," operating out of a NatWest. Ridiculously fun.

The title card teams — Scamps vs Slumber Party — had 18 minutes to build scenes from a short audience monologue. Scamps took a backpacking adventure in New Zealand and turned it into a Lord of the Rings adventure. The creativity in shifting scene realities was masterful, and they delivered a brilliant set. Slumber Party had a fun set too, which included a great scene of a dad offering to bend Foxtons over his knee for fuelling gentrification across Clapham. Classic stuff.

The head-to-head format keeps the crowd energised, and Rip Van Winkle holds the evening together with shameless charm. All four teams brought something unique, and together they made for a thoroughly entertaining night.

If you are looking for high-energy, competitive improv, Scrimmage delivers.
